In a game of contrasting halves the Oldsmar Christian Eagles came away with a hard fought victory in a physical game with Roman Catholic. Roman Catholic would pull away in the first half by as many as 9 points with 3:56 to go in the half, but the Eagles would close the gap with momentum spurred by a thunderous dunk from Troy Baxter to cut the lead to five at halftime 24-19. The second half was controlled by Oldsmar Christian as they jumped out to a lead of as much as 7 with less than eight minutes to go only to see Roman Catholic cut it to two with an “and one” by Nazeer Bostic. The Eagles would continue to hold off short runs by Roman Catholic and finally put the game out of reach with a 3 pointer by Troy Baxter with a minute to go to give them a five point lead. After a defensive stop and some FT’s down the stretch, the Eagles were able to put the game away.
Oldsmar Christian had 3 players in double figures (Baxter 14 pts, Eric Hester, 13 pts, and LJ Figueroa 14 points). Roman Catholic was led by Lamar Stevens with 19 points. The Eagles will now move on now to the semi-finals of the National Bracket at 5:25 on Monday and Roman Catholic will play Monday in the losers bracket at 4:55 in the auxillary gym.
