game 31

The Hammond Skyhawks came into this game as underdogs but did not play anything like underdogs in the first half. Seventh Woods got off to a hot start and the hustle plays and defense of Jonathan Yuchmow helped give the Skyhawks a 28-16 halftime lead. Woods and  Michael Turner led the Skyhawks in scoring in the first half with 14 points and 8 points respectively. The beginning of the second half was much the same as the Skyhawks got contributions from the three point line by Jack Theodore and Turner. Turner knocked down his fourth 3 pointer with 9:39 to give Hammond a 47-25 lead. At this point Greenforest decided to keep the ball out of Seventh Woods at hands and applied full court pressure. This helped change the game and helped get Greenforest back in the game cutting into the lead down to six at one point. Down the stretch, Hammond was able to knock down free-throws as Greenforest was forced to foul. The Free-Throws down the stretch helped Hammond secure its first ever American Bracket Chick Fil A Classic Championship by a score of 70-58. Woods finished the game tonight with 26 points, while Chavez Goodwin came up with 12 points and 15 rebounds and Michael Turner chipped in 5 three-pointers in route to 20 points and 7 rebounds.
