1129 Reads

Wednesday will be the featured day for the American Bracket first round match-ups. Providence Day (NC) and John Carroll (MD) will start the day off and will be followed by Cannon (NC) versus Wheeler (GA). Later in the afternoon, Porter Gaud (SC) will take on Blythewood (SC) and then finally the games on Wednesday will conclude with Lafayette Christian versus Westlake (GA).

Providence Day vs John Carroll 12:00

Providence Day returns to the CFA after going 2-1 in last year’s tournament to finish 5th in their bracket. They feature top Junior Point Guard Devon Dotson and sharp shooting Junior Trey Wertz. John Carroll returns to the CFA for the first time in 10 years. They boast one of the younger rosters in this year’s tournament with several top underclassmen and expect to be led by Junior’s Montez Mathis and Immanuel Quickley.

Cannon School vs Wheeler 1:30

The Cannon School makes their first appearance in the CFA making the short trip down I-77 with one of the fastest movers in the 2018 rankings with Jairus Hamilton who is a smooth 6-7 wing that can score in bunches. Wheeler comes in to the CFA with arguably one of the more talented rosters from top to bottom and plays one of the toughest schedules in the country. They are led by Louisville signee Darius Perry and Southern Cal signee Jordan Usher. Also, look for Junior EJ Montgomery (Auburn Commitment) to play a big role in their success.

Blythewood vs Porter Gaud 4:40

Blythewood makes a return appearance in this year’s CFA as the pre-season #3 5A team in South Carolina. They feature a very athletic team that can compete with anybody when they come to play. The Bengals are led by Keith Matthews a Stetson signee and Charles Jackson who played big minutes as a Freshmen last year and he can stroke it from three point arc. Porter Gaud is making their first appearance in the CFA and they are most of the media’s pick to win the State SCISA 3A Championship this year. Josiah James is an up and coming Sophomore and has plenty of support with Juniors Aaron Nesmith and Jake Lanford.

Lafayette Christian will be the first team from Louisiana to compete in the CFA and they feature LSU signee Galen Alexander (injured) along with Northwestern State signee Caleb Starks. They will have their hands full with the defending 6A State Champions from Georgia, Westlake High School. Westlake is coming off a big win several weeks ago versus rival Wheeler and could be looking for a rematch with Wheeler later on in this tournament. They are led by Auburn signee Chuma Okeke.
