This was another 1st round match-up of top South Carolina teams and both came to play from the opening tip. Both teams went right at each other’s press defense to create easy lay-ups and drive and kick outs for 3 point shots. Robert Braswell and Keith Matthews led the Bengals in scoring early while Aaron Nesmith got hot for Porter Gaud leading them with 12 points before the break. The second half at times was very sloppy on both sides but was a tough fought back and forth affair. The Bengals built the lead up to as many as 6 points only to see Aaron Nesmith of Porter Gaud pull the Cyclones to within two points after a steal and a 3 point basket with 46.7 seconds left in the game. On the next Blythewood possession, Nesmith would get another steal with 16.9 seconds left. After a timeout and the ball on the side out of bounds, Nesmith would be double teamed and throw it away into the hands of a Bengal defender which would seal the win for the Bengals.
Blythewood will now face the Wheeler on Thursday at 5:25.
