Providence Day Gets Its Revenge

588 Reads

The Chargers of Providence Day accomplished something they had not done previously. First, they advanced to the Chick-Fil-a Classic Championship for the first time and second they were able to avenge an early season loss to Cox Mill.

Both teams started this game in attack mode with Cox Mill missing several easy baskets and Providence Day finishing there opportunities. With 9:02 to go in the half, Providence Day would go up 14-9 on a Trey Wertz three-pointer. Wertz would follow with a break away lay up and a jump shot to put the Chargers up 18-8. Devin Dotson would extend the lead to 22-12 on short runner with 3:43 to go. The difference in this first half was the ability of Providence Day to finish around the basket and make shots. Cox Mill shot a brisk cold 25% as a team and was only down 31-22 at the half.

As the second half got going, so did Leaky Black as he scored 7 points in a 2 minute span to help cut the lead to 39-36 with 9:46 to play. Isaac Sufferin and Devin Dotson would quickly put the Chargers back ahead by 9 points again with back to back baskets. Sufferin would strike again for a three-pointer with 3:39 left to put Providence Day up 51-39. Cox Mill would only get as close as six points as Providence Day would convert lay-ups and free-throws down stretch to secure the 63-52 win. Isaac Sufferin led the Chargers of Providence Day with 24 points and 14 rebounds in the win.

Providence Day will move on to the American Bracket Championship on Friday at 8:30 in the Main Gym
