Game 16 Summary

By Gerald Davis

Christ School took another step toward successfully defending its Chick-fil-A Classic title Monday with an 85-55 win against Dreher at Richland Northeast. Tony Kimbro scored 16 points and pulled 10 rebounds to lead the Greenies, who will play Charlotte Christian at 6:30 Tuesday in the Classic II final. Dreher was undersized against Christ School, but it wasn’t the height differential that did in the Blue Devils. Despite having an advantage with 7-0 junior center Marshall Plumlee, Christ School shot 24 3-pointers. They shot a whopping 64.5 percent from the field in the second half. Kimbro was 3-of-7 from beyond the arc. “We start four guards and a post so we shoot a lot of 3-pointers,” said Christ School coach David Gaines. “We average 32 (3-pointers) a game, but we were 1-of-8 in the first half and were wide open.”

Damarcus Harrison had 15 points and Trevonte Dixon added 14 as Gaines for Christ School, which improved to 13-1. Chris Brown led Dreher with a game-high 28 points. He finished with six 3-pointers. The tournament record for most 3-pointers in a game is eight, set by Lower Richland’s Preston Blackmon last season.
