Cam Scott scored 17 points to propel Lexington (SC) to a 52-39 victory over host River Bluff (SC) in the American bracket of the Chick-fil-A Classic.

It was Scot and Montrell Byrd with the biggest baskets of the fourth quarter. River Bluff pulled within 42-37 with 4:06 remaining. But Scott hit a three-pointer from the left wing to ignite a 10-2 run to give the Wildcats complete control. Bryd made another 3-pointer from the left wing that extended the lead to 48-39 with just over a minute left.

It was a matchup of two teams that are very familiar with each other. They are region rivals and will play two more times in the regular season. Those two will meet later in the regular season that will have playoff implications. The Gators are the defending Class 5A state championships but had to replace a huge senior class.

Scott had 10 points in the first half to help give Lexington a 26-21 advantage at the break. But Scott picked up his third foul in the second quarter and had to sit the last couple of minutes of the half.

Scott, the No. 11 ranked player by ESPN in the Class of 2024, finished with 17 points, nine rebounds and four blocks. Jose Figueroa added 15 points and Morgan Washington chipped in with 15 points.

Preston Hearn led a balanced River Bluff attack with 10 points. Joseph Rodriguez added nine points and seven rebounds with TaeJon Myers chipping in with eight points and five rebounds.

Lexington will play Irmo in a winner’s bracket game on Wednesday at 3:50 pm.
