The showdown between the top two ranked girls’ basketball players in the 2024 Class lived up to its billing Wednesday night at the 21st Chick-fil-A Classic. Sarah Strong, the No. 1 ranked player by ESPN’s HoopGurlz, scored 31 points and added 17 rebounds to lead Grace Christian (NC) to a 58-52 victory over Camden (SC).

Strong, a 6-foor-2 forward, was 7-of-10 from the three-point line. She added four steals, two blocks and one assist in shooting 11-of-18 from the field. Icyss Storm added nine points and added 10 rebounds for the Crusaders.

Joyce Edwards, the No. 2 player in the 2024 Class and signee for South Carolina, scored 27 points with nine rebounds, five blocks, three assists and three steals. Edwards was also 11-of-18 from the field. The entire South Carolina coaching staff was in attendance along with several of the current Gamecock players to not only watch Edwards but also to see the efforts of Strong.

Grace Christian (13-0) held a 54-52 lead with 29 seconds remaining when Isa Roman got a steal near midcourt and raced in for a layup. The Bulldogs (11-2) missed a rushed 3-pointer on the next trip down floor and Halisi Whitley scored the final points at the buzzer for the six-point victory.
