River Bluff scored its first win at the Chick-fil-A Classic on Friday with a 55-48 victory over Lancaster.

It is the first win in eight tries for the Gators, the host school of the event since 2021. River Bluff was 0-7 entering Friday’s American Bracket game against the Bruins, one of the top teams in SC in Class 4A.

River Bluff will play the Imani Christian/Keenan winner in the bracket consolation game championship. Lancaster gets the loser of that game.

Luke Chapman led the Gators with 16 points and Yasir Cromer added 14 points and nine assists.

River Bluff trailed 36-35 late in the third quarter before Cromer hit a layup and then 3-pointer to go up 39-36. The Gators never trailed after that.

Malik Tinsley led the Bruins with 14 points and RJ Brown had 11.

Lancaster was without one of its top players Jordan Watford, who missed the game with an ankle injury.
